The PdOC Interdisciplinary Journal Club – a chance to discuss current topics in academia with postdocs outside your usual peer group.
7-9pm Thursday 26 November, Postdoc Centre @ 16 Mill Lane
This event's aim is to bring together postdocs from different disciplines to discuss current topics in academia, research, and society. Often we find ourselves among peers whose world view is very similar to our own – because we read the same things, discuss with the same people, and have undergone the same training. As a consequence, it can sometimes be startling to find that people with a different background view a given topic in a completely different way. And it may at times be difficult to understand how such a different view came about.
The PdOC Interdisciplinary Journal Club should be a forum where we exchange views and experiences revolving around a current topic. Ideally, the group will be composed of people from all areas of Cambridge's academic institutions: arts, humanities, STEMM. This should help us see past our usual horizons, enabling us to think outside the boxes of our academic fields.
Prospective participants will receive short articles ahead of the actual journal club. Preparative reading time will not exceed 1hr total, and the articles should serve as basis for an evening of informal discussions. Wine and nibbles will be provided.
The first PdOC Interdisciplinary Journal Club will, fittingly, be on: Interdisciplinary Research
