Developing Early identification and Access in Learning Environments (DEAL): identification of mental health issues in primary school children

Jasmine Childs-Fegredo, Department of Public Health and Primary Care

Abstract: Research has shown that 1 in 10 children of primary school age suffer with anxiety, and that well-designed programmes to identify children and adolescents at-risk of, or experiencing poor mental health, show promise for improving detection and referral to intervention, and may improve mental health outcomes. The aim of this study is to work with stakeholders to co-produce a prototype school-based MH identification programme and delivery model to aid primary schools to systematically identify children at risk of, or currently experiencing MH difficulties.

The next generation of cancer treatment: Specific delivery of cytotoxics to cancer cells

Maria J. Matos, Department of Chemistry

Abstract: Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have been developed for targeted delivery of potent anti-cancer drugs with the aim of bypassing the side-effects and morbidity common to conventional chemotherapy.

Ars and Techne in Renaissance and Early Modern time: the work of Salomon de Caus (c.1576-1626)

Emanuela Vai, Institute of Continuing Education

Abstract:A peculiar Renaissance artist, engineer, automata maker, landscape architect and amateur musician, Salomon de Caus (1576-1626) belongs to the almost forgotten ‘makers’ knowledge tradition’. Comprised of autodidacts who were also skilled artisans and makers of machines, they challenged the divisions between ‘theory and practice’ and ‘cognition and construction’ by refusing to separate knowing from making. This talk will explore the life and creations of de Caus and the relationship between music, materiality and architecture in Renaissance and Early Modern thought.
