Postdocs of Cambridge Society

Do you want to dive into the Cambridge herbarium for a private tour? Here is an opportunity to visit the Cambridge University Herbarium and have a glimpse of the 1.1 million specimens in our collections. These dried pressed plant specimens were collected worldwide over more than 3 centuries, sometimes as part of famous expeditions such as Darwin’s Beagle journey, and represent a treasure trove of historical and scientific information. Through its history, the Herbarium has also acquired a significant number of botanical illustrations and illustrative prints, which were used by successive Professors to teach Botany at the University of Cambridge. You will hear about the history of the Herbarium and its most distinguished collectors, see how herbarium specimens are made, and learn about the ways researchers and scientists use these collections to support their research.

Anne Dubéarnès will be leading this tour. For those who don’t know her yet, she is currently doing a postdoc in the Herbarium, looking for type specimens (she’ll explain what those are).

Places are limited to 16, so sign up here!
