Postdocs of Cambridge Society

The next expedition in the PdOC Society's legendary series of hiking trips will be to Keswick in the scenic Lake District.

We will be returning to stay at the Derwentwater Youth Hostel situated right on the edge of the lake, where we had a very successful trip in 2015. The hostel offers delicious home cooked food, or you can self cater. A short distance from Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, there is no shortage of stunning hikes in this area.

We will travel up from Cambridge on the Friday night and return by (early) evening on the Monday. The cost for accommodation alone for three nights will be £76 per person (£25 per night), or £151 for full board (including breakfast, packed lunch and 3 course evening meal).

The bunkhouse is right in the heart of walking country, and it is also a short journey into Keswick, a beautiful town worth a visit. Food-wise, the hostel offer delicious home-cooked food, breakfast and packed lunches. The brownies were thoroughly enjoyed by all when we stayed here in 2015. If you prefer to self-cater then there are kitchen facilities available for your use.

No prior hiking experience is necessary, but please indicate your level of experience on the google form so that we can plan our walks accordingly. You will need worn-in hiking boots, so if this will be your first walking trip then please think about this now. Blisters are no fun!

Various transport options to the hostel are available and we will help drivers and passengers co-ordinate seats in cars and suggest some car hire companies. Please indicate on the form if you are able to drive, to hire a car, to take passengers or if you are a passenger willing to provide company in exchange for a seat.
