Postdocs of Cambridge Society

The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) is the largest teaching department in Cambridge, with over 7,500 enrolled students.

It was created 149 years ago as the world’s first open-entry provider of excellent and inclusive higher education for adults, irrespective of their previous educational achievement.

ICE delivers around 300 courses a year.   They span short courses, fully online programmes and undergraduate and postgraduate awards resulting in a Cambridge qualification.  Our courses encompass the arts, social sciences, natural sciences, technology and vocational fields.  https://www.ice.cam.ac.uk/courses/courses-subject

In any given academic year, we employ 250-300 Panel Tutors.  We draw our Panel Tutors from the collegiate University, other universities, healthcare providers, the third sector, business and industry.  Some of our tutors lead programmes while others give an occasional lecture or run a specialist workshop.  With sector leading hourly rates (£78/hr), we work with tutors from around Cambridge, the region and globally.

From the perspective of Cambridge postdoctoral researchers, the opportunity to deliver teaching through ICE enables them to develop a teaching portfolio, interact with diverse student groups and build their CVs.  We also provide a range of tutor development and networking events.

This brief presentation and Q&A will outline the role of the Institute of Continuing Education and support Cambridge postdocs to learn more about paid teaching opportunities at ICE.
