Postdocs of Cambridge Society

The PdOC Society and Personal and Professional Development (PPD) are pleased to offer the masterclass:

Straight Talking about Talking Straight:
How to interest others in your research

As a postdoc, you may not have thought too hard about how other people see and hear you when you talk about what you do. This masterclass will provide you with the opportunity to think about how to interest others in your research, guided by leading journalist, Susan Watts.

You may simply want to persuade a researcher you meet at a conference that the two of you should collaborate. Or, you may want to think about how you would respond if you were asked to record an interview for local radio or appear live on prime time television. Or you may want to consider how you talk about your  research to a multi-disciplinary interview panel.

Whatever your reason for attending this masterclass, you will leave with an appreciation of the value of being able to talk to anyone about what you do.  You will gain a flavour of the world of journalism and why you need to know your audience. You will also get a feel for the real-world pressure of live interviews.
