Want to see the mighty wise postdocs of Cambridge furrowing their brows, scrunching their eyebrows, biting their lower lips in amazed puzzlement?! Search no more! Join us for a night of displayed nescience in what happens to be Alejandro's favourite pub: The Champion of the Thames! Fear not for our unavoidable defeat: we'll still remain Champions of the Granta.
How does it work?
1. Prepare a £1 in cash before you leave home: it's your entry fee. Don't worry if you don't have exactly £1, some other postdoc should be able to give you some change!
2. Join us at the Champion from 18:00 to 18:30 to reserve a table. If you arrive later you will still be able to join, but you might need to sit in the ground!
3. Have a friendly drink with other solecistic postdocs from your group while you wait for the big events. This is when friendhips are created, so make sure you don't miss it! The pub has some cold snacks that could serve as a cold dinner.
4. At 20:00 the main event starts: brace yourself! The Quiz usually has 6 rounds of 5 questions each plus an impossible jackpot question.
5. Celebrate defeat! Or, if your team wins the quiz, you'll all get a free round from the bar. If you guess the jackpot question correctly you'll leave the pub with your pockets filled with cash, but lets be honest: we are only postdocs!
And most importantly: don't cheat! Pub quizzes are not about winning, it's about being jolly in comunal bewilderment :).
