Postdocs of Cambridge Society

This event is now fully booked. If you would like to be added to the waiting list please email Marta Costa at mmc46@cam.ac.uk

We are very excited to welcome you to an after work event where we will explore the history of the University of Cambridge, the current organisation of this great institution and its symbols, ceremonies and traditions that you may have wondered about.

  • Have you ever wondered how a great university came to be founded close to an ancient Roman settlement in the fens?
  • What was the first College and when was it founded?
  • Who makes decisions in the university now and how are they elected?
  • How do postdocs fit into the governance of the University?
  • Why are there different types of gowns and what is the symbolism in the University coat of arms?
Now you can find out!
It will be a packed evening with several distinguished and experienced speakers and even a special edible surprise!

Featured speakers:
  • Nicholas Chrimes: author of best-selling book "Cambridge: Treasure Island in the Fens"
  • Dr Elisabeth Leedham-Green: Darwin College Archivist & author of "A Concise History of the University of Cambridge"
  • Dr Rob Wallach: Director of OPdA and former vice-Provost of King’s College
