Postdocs of Cambridge Society

Due to illness the Journal club has been moved to Thursday Feb 4th

The PdOC Interdisciplinary Journal Club – a chance to discuss current topics in academia with postdocs outside your usual peer group.

Topic: From Photons to Awareness: In many cases, we know that visual information is being processed by the brain, and yet this information does not seem to enter into our consciousness. When do the photons of light that hit our retinae reach our awareness?

This event's aim is to bring together postdocs from different disciplines to discuss current topics in academia, research, and society. The PdOC Interdisciplinary Research Club should be a forum where we exchange views and experiences revolving around a common topic. Ideally, the group will be composed of people from all areas of Cambridge's academic institutions: arts, humanities, STEMM. This should help us see past our usual horizons, enabling us to think outside the boxes of our academic fields.

Prospective participants will receive a summary/outline of the talk and short articles ahead of the actual meeting. Preparative reading time will not exceed 1hr total, and the articles should serve as basis for an evening of informal discussions. Wine and nibbles will be provided.

This time we will first have a presentation by Will Harrison on "From Photons to Awareness" followed by an open discussion round.
